Tuesday 5th August
I get up at 7:25, for breakfast bread with butter and jam, milk. At 8:45 we met Marta in front of the hospital again in order to make another try to find a place for me at the department, this time at Surgery III. Marta spoke with the boss, everything seems to be OK, only doctors are not present today so probably tomorrow... I spent the rest of the morning in the computer room on the internet.
After lunch in the canteen I slept from 1:30pm till 4pm. Then I went to see the city district called Estrela. Jardim da Estrela is a park (quite usual) with lots of children and old men playing cards. I watched them a little while but didn't notice what the rules of the game are. However they were enjoying the game very much, making wild gestures and one of them even played standing. When leaving I asked (in portuguese!!!) one senor who was watching the game as well what kind of game it is. He seemed to have understood and said something like "salkes", but I dont remember exactly now. I walked on to the Basilica da Estrela , built by order of a woman called Mary. The building is a consequence of her fulfilled wish to have a son, the heir to the throne. He died in the age of 11 anyway (from pox), but the basilica was already nearly finished. The last monument was Palacio de Sao Bento, neoclassicist building, the house of the parliament.
Way back home: Rato - S.Sebastiao - shopping in El Corte Ingles (can of pine apple rings, strawberry milk and cookies a la cookies) - dinner in the canteen, the cashier wanted me to pay for the second dessert, in return for that I borrowed a glass (will return at the end of the month). In the evening I am not going anywhere, I save power for tomorrow (surfing, dinner)
I have had cough since I arrived and it is becoming quite disturbing.

The weather was very hot again, cca 36deg, in the evening light wind.
