Monday 4th August

This day began with mass getting up at about 7:30, because Marta set the meeting point at 9am in front of the hospital at the Egas Moniz' statue. When it was about 9:30 and everybody was there, Marta started to divide us to the departments according to our preferences. Unfortunetaly the boss of the Gynaecoogy department said that he didn't want any students now. So I am still unplaced. The others had bettrer luck, but in 80% of them no doctors were present today. So after a while of waiting we went to the canteen.

In the afternoon we had to do official documents work at the office, which reminds me now that I must seek Dona Lucia and give her an envelope with some documents and a deposit of 7euros for my key. Then we went to Costa da Caparica for our first surfing lesson. Hugo awaited us at 4pm, but despite our greates effort we came to the place at 4:30pm. We quickly make a deal of 60euros for 7 lessons and it is time to GO: Neopren, wax the board, limber up and into the waves. The surfing conditions here in Portugal are said to be the best in Europe, what better could we wish for. After a short training on the ground we go through the crowd of people to the open ocean and the waves belong to us. After 3 or 4 tries I finally managed to catch the wave, stand up and make a short ride. We spent 2 hours in the water with alternating success. At the end I was very tired and my shoulders hurt. Paddeling and speeding up when the wave comes becomes more and more difficult.

Because of our late surfing afternoon we missed the dinner at the canteen (closes at 8pm). At least we got an apple and a banana. Shoping in Modelo: 3,99 euro.
