Saturday 16th August

Journey to EvoraLike every year the first thing to remember today is the anniversary of Elvis' death. It has been 26 years. I get up bloody early - at 6am. The meeting in front of the residence is at 6:50 and is generally kept. The ferry from Praca do Commercio leaves at 7:45 (0,67euro). We continue to Evora by IC train from the railway station on the other side of the river. The train costs 12,80euro for return ticket with one change in Casa Branca. I must forget about all my plans to see megalits near Evora because neither bike nor car rental is available. I run through the town completely desperate, but find no way how to reach megalits. At 1:30pm I resigned to the last possibility which was taking a quick walk and concentrate on touring the tow: Cathedral with 2 different towers, Roman temple to Diana, narrow streets of Evora, aquaduct from the 16th century leading a few kilometres out of the town with some kind of a convent nearby, Largo do Porta de Moura, Igreja do Convento da Graca, ossuary in the church of Sao Francisco (bones of about 5000 monks). Between 4 and 5pm I lie about in the garden at the Palacio de D.Manuel waiting for the train departure. We leave Evora at 6:18. The night ride by ferry in Lisbon is very nice, the view on the lighted bridge and statue of Jesus makes me take pictures but combination of my trembling hand and long night exposition time makes it impossible.

We eat Chang's chinese noodles collectively for dinner.

I have absolutely no food left so there will be no breakfast tomorrow...
