Wednesday 13th August
It seemed to be a fiasco again in the hospital, but in the end I spent 2 hours at the outpatient department with Winston and it was quite interesting. I would like to know what is the job of Lubomir, Mikhail and Eugeniu, the three doctors at my department. I haven't seen them doing anything yet. They are all 40-50 years old, but approximately as useful as me. Anyway, tomorrow I will finally go to the operating room.
I slept again in the afternoon until 4pm and then went to Alfama: Church Santo Antonio a Se - a little church with a mass just going on => no visit. Se cathedral - romananesque cathedral, gothic gallery with 9 chapels + monastery for 1euro, where I didn't go. Miradouro de Santa Luzia - a view point over the harbor and Tejo river, small pool nearby with children having a bathe. Sao Vicente de Fora - closed.
Then I went quickly back to the canteen thinking that it is one hour later than it really was (bus Nr.1 from Rossio to Campo Pequeno). There I realized that it was only 6:50pm. So I walked around the bull fight arena, which is currently under reconstruction. It is made of bricks. After dinner shopping and back home, where we spend evening planing a trip to Porto and Coimbra. The transport possibilities are by car or by train. Renting a car (a small one, which means Corsa or Punto) costs pleasant 30euros a day, but we haven't made the reservation. Another question is the accomodation. I am ready to "live" the traditional way, but there are the others, too. And I don't have anything to sleep on, not mentioning the sleeping bag. But if it is 25deg at night so who cares...
Now a short of list of what I usually buy here: Bread - I don't have to buy it, there is plenty of it from the canteen, Milk 0,38euro, strawberry milk 0,70euro, pepper salami 3,80euro/kg, Nutella 2,10euro, can of pine-apple 1,10euro, beer Imperial 1,69euro/6x33cl, biscuits from Modelo 0,73euro/250g. I go shopping to either Modelo or El Corte Ingles.
