Sunday 10th August
I woke up at 11am,which turned out to be a great mistake, because there is no admission to museums on Sundays until 2pm. Anyway I went to Belem by tram nr.15. This line is run by modern air-conditioned trams with broad panoramatic windows.
Now what I saw in Belem: Museu Nacional de Arquelogia with nice jewellery room and egyptian sarcophag, Mosteiro dos Jeronimos - the cloister from the beginning of 16th century, masterpiece of manuelian style, tomb of Vasco da Gamma in the church, Padrao dos descobrimentos - the monument of oversees discoveries on the place where caravels used to set sail for their journeys, Torre de Belem - the tower now just at the riverside, but it used to be further from the shore (as seen on many paintings), because the Tejo river used to be higher. Then I continued up the hill on foot to Ermida de Sao Jeronimo, a small chapel on the top of the hill. Palacio de Belem - the pink palace, the seat of portuguese president. Igreja da Memoria - church. Jardim Botanico da Ajuda - nothing worth 1,50euro entry fee to be seen here (although it can look beautiful on the foto). I take tram nr.18, it is very old with open windows and it is a super ride!
At home me, Roman and Chang decide that we will cook pasta with tuna fish and corn and so we go shopping to Modelo. After having breakfast we just sit, talk and switch from one TV channel to another. At midnight we received a message from Apo that everybody is going out, because it is Antonella's birthday. But it will probably end with giving her a birthday cake, which Blanca bought.
Last note: Chang bought Luis Figo T-shirt today (19,50euro)
