Friday 1st August

It is 12:40 AM Lisbon time, which is CET-1 hour. I've just been accomodated in the students' residence and it is pretty hot here. It is midnight and the temperature here is some 36C now. During the day it was cca 45deg according to Marta. This is exactly what I was afraid of. But let's start from the very beginning...

The plane from Prague (Flight LX1487 Prg-Zrh 1500-1625) took off, due to delayed arrival of the plane, 40min later than planned. Already at the check-in desk I spotted familiar face and it was Radim from the former 1.A class, which I spent wonderful week in the hotel Boboty with. No sooner than at the Gate B4 did I dare to talk to him and what a surprise, He had the same destination - Hospital Santa Maria, Lisbon, Portugal.
The aircraft Avrojet RJ100 Avroliner, also called "Jumbolino", for about 100 passengers took us to Zurich. Having a seat 10A just under the left wing I had a great view both down at the landscape and up at the flaps' work. During the flight we had a sandwich and orange juice.
In Zurich there was a 4 hour waiting break. I spent it going around the airport, railway station (trains go really exactly on time) and watching planes landing and departing. The frequency of flights cannot be compared to Ruzyne in any way. This is like the planes falling from the sky one after another... One plane leaving the runway, the second one landing on it and the third being on final approach. Simply great!
Airbus A320, which is going to transport us to Lisbon, is a very nice plane, but thanks to my incapability to refuse a request of one guy who wants to sit next to his girlfriend I change my window seat 28F for a middle seat 23E (which is just above the wing). That's why I dont see much this time. But the great thing is that there are small screens above our heads showing (except Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse cartoons) a map with the plane's position and basic flight information. The main part of the flight was in the altitude of 10 700m, airspeed 850km/h with the outside temperature -50C. The flight took 2 hours 20 min. It got dark during the flight so I wouldn't see anything anyway (except the huge fires on the ground in Portugal).
On the Lisbon airport we met Petra, another Czech student (from my faculty). Together with Marta Moitinho there was a Hungarian student Peter waiting for us. Because Marta's Nissan Micra couldn't take more than two people, me and Radim went by taxi (9 Euro). The driver didn't drive slower than 110 km/h all the time ignoring all traffic lights. It is said to be a rule here. In the residence we received tickets to the canteen and were instructed to be in front of the hospital on Monday at 9 AM.
So now I'm going to take a shower and then going to bed.
